Sharif Bey: Excavations is a publication accompanying the artist’s solo exhibition at Carnegie Museum of Art in his hometown of Pittsburgh. Framing questions of how an artist’s practice connects to identity and social responsibility, the book traces Bey’s autobiographical “excavations” of formative places, people, and experiences, exploring themes of ancestral wisdom, diasporic identity, and his relationship to museums and cultural institutions.

The layout design was inspired by archival boxes used to store artifacts, combining glossy and matte papers across different sections and incorporating metallic gold spot color to create a layered, dynamic reading experience.
